What is a Kuksa?
These handmade mugs are made from hollowed-out birch burl, a tradition passed down since ancient times by the Sami people who lived in Lapland in northern Finland. The birch burl, called bahaca, that is used for these mugs takes 30 years to grow to a sufficient size, and even small burls take 10 to 15 years, so there is a limit to how much can be harvested. We have reproduced this cup, which is said to be a symbol of happiness, at an affordable price.
