＜Forming method: Drain Casting＞

Despite its simple shape, it is actually a labor-intensive design. Conventional molds require a "draft angle" to allow the product to be removed from the mold. This method involves pouring clay into the outer part of the mold, letting it harden slightly, and then discarding the excess clay, adding an extra step.

*What is Drain Casting?
Drain casting (or slip casting) has long been used as one of the forming methods in ceramic manufacturing.
When slip is poured into a plaster sectional mold, the plaster absorbs the water, causing the outer slip to harden.
Once the hardened slip reaches the desired thickness, the mold is inverted to discard any excess slip. When the sectional mold is removed, the piece is shaped as intended.
Another characteristic of drain casting is that each piece will have slight variations in shape.
This is a valuable product as the number of factories that perform labor-intensive drain casting is decreasing.
