＜Forming method: Drain Casting＞

Despite its simple shape, it is actually quite labor-intensive to produce. Normal molds require a draft angle to allow the piece to be removed from the mold. However, with this method, clay is poured into the outer mold, allowed to harden slightly, and then an extra step is added to discard the excess clay. 

*What is drain casting?
Drain casting (or slip casting with drainage) has long been used as one of the forming methods in ceramic manufacturing.
When slip is poured into a plaster sectional mold, the plaster absorbs the water, and the outer layer of the slip hardens.
Once the hardened slip reaches the desired thickness, the mold is inverted to discard the excess slip. When the sectional molds are removed, the piece is finished in the desired shape.
Another characteristic of drain casting is that each piece will have slight variations in shape.
This is a valuable product as fewer factories are now undertaking the labor-intensive process of drain casting.
