[What is Seto Akazu-yaki?]
Seto Akazu-yaki is a traditional craft produced in the Akazu district of Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, and is counted as one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Its characteristics include the use of seven types of glazes (ash glaze, iron glaze, Kiseko, Shino, Oribe, Ofuke, and Ko-Seto) and 12 types of decorative techniques (such as spatulated carving, comb marks, and stamped patterns). A wide range of products, including tea ceremony utensils and daily necessities, are made. Its history dates back to Sueki ware of the Nara period, and its current techniques and name were established in the early Edo period.
