<What is Ajiroi weaving?>
Ajiro-ami is a typical technique that uses thick, flat bamboo strips of the same width, skipping two or three strips between each cross, and weaving with offset stitches. The vertical and horizontal weaving is done without any gaps, resulting in a very strong bamboo weave. Since unique differences can be created depending on the weaving method, it can be used in a variety of applications, such as ajiro-ami, masu-amiro-ami, shiho-amiro-ami, hiraki-amiro-ami, hana-amiro-ami, and variegated-ami. For this reason, it has been used not only in bamboo crafts, but also in many household items such as ceilings and folding screens.
