■ This is an 8-sun plate made of cypress.
The term "hassun" originally referred to an appetizer served during the "kaiseki" meal, which is the culminating course of a tea ceremony. The appetizer consisted of two dishes, one from the sea and one from the mountains, served on a square wooden tray measuring exactly eight sun (approximately 24 cm). The name of this dish was derived directly from the tray's dimensions.
We have crafted a plate from cypress specifically for serving hassun.
The corners of the side panels are bent, and the birch joint at the seam adds an accent.
Cypress is characterized by its bright tone and uniform grain, which gives it a luxurious feel and enhances the presentation of food.
