(*) Anodizing Anodizing (anodic oxidation) is a surface treatment that artificially produces an oxide film (aluminum oxide) by electrolytically treating aluminum with an anode (positive electrode).
Aluminum easily combines with oxygen, and when exposed to air, it forms a very thin oxide film. Because it is protected by this naturally formed film, it is generally said to be resistant to rust, or in other words, to good corrosion resistance. However, because this film is very thin, it can corrode due to chemical reactions depending on the environment. For this reason, a surface treatment to protect the surface, i.e. anodizing, is required.
