What is Koishiwara-yaki?
This pottery is made in "Toho Village," located in the central-south part of Fukuoka Prefecture. In a tranquil mountain setting with sprawling rural landscapes, approximately 50 kilns create these vessels. As a prime example of utilitarian folk crafts used in daily life, traditional techniques have been passed down continuously for about 350 years. They have pursued the concept known as "beauty in utility," which is useful in daily life.
What is Tobikanna?
This design features a series of "dot, dot, dot..." patterns that can be described as somewhat geometric. The swirling appearance is called 'tobikanna'. Despite being a simple pattern, 'tobikanna' has an exquisite balance and atmosphere that prevents dishes from looking sparse.
