＜Molding method: Slip casting (Gaba-zukuri)＞

Despite its simple shape, it is actually a shape that requires a lot of effort. Normal molds require a draft angle to remove the product from the mold. With this method, clay is poured into the outside of the mold, allowed to harden slightly, and then excess clay is discarded, which adds an extra step.

*What is slip casting (Gaba-zukuri)?
Slip casting (Gaba-zukuri) has been used as one of the forming methods in ceramic manufacturing since ancient times.
When slip is poured into a plaster sectional mold, the plaster absorbs water, and the slip on the outside hardens.
Once the hardened slip reaches the required thickness, the mold is inverted to discard the excess slip, and then the sectional mold is removed to reveal the molded shape.
One of the characteristics of slip casting is that each piece will have a slightly different shape.
It is a valuable product as fewer factories now perform the labor-intensive slip casting method.
